Former head of Coinbase Japan, Nao Kitazawa, has joined venture capital firm Eight Roads as an investment partner.

He noted that he entered into an agreement for the sake of “realizing his love for fintech and Web3.”

Kitazawa left Coinbase Japan in February this year after working for the company for nearly five years. Earlier, the platform announced its withdrawal from the Japanese market, citing unfavorable market conditions.

“I am honored to be part of a firm with a successful track record of supporting some of the most innovative and disruptive companies in the world,” added the ex-CEO.

Eight Roads, formerly known as Fidelity Ventures, began investing as early as 1969. The company has backed several crypto startups including Fireblocks and Kaiko.

Recall that in June, Circle hired a former chairman CFTC Heath Tarbert as General Counsel.

Cryptocurrency-friendly co-founder of tech giant Alibaba, Joseph Tsai, will succeed Daniel Zhang as chairman of the company’s board of directors.

Bitcoin exchange Binance also hired an ex-enforcement officer SEC George Kanellos.
