AFK Sistema of Vladimir Yevtushenkov intends to buy Nearmedic, the developer of the antiviral drug Kagocel, the Vedomosti newspaper reports, citing sources familiar with the negotiations. The amount at which Nearmedic can be estimated, taking into account its debts to Sberbank and other creditors, is not named. Nikolay Bespalov, Development Director of RNC Pharma, estimates the Kagocel brand alone in the range from 7 to 12 billion rubles.
AFK Sistema entered into negotiations with Sberbank to purchase all Nearmedic assets, Vedomosti sources say. It is planned that AFK and Sberbank will create a joint venture, and the first party will pay off part of Nearmedica’s debts to the second. The amount of the transaction with the owners of Nearmedica will amount to a symbolic 1 ruble.
The largest beneficiary of the Cyprus-based Nearmedic International Ltd. (41%) – Vladimir Nesterenko, co-founder of a group of companies and a former scientist at the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. The group of companies owns two factories in Moscow and Obninsk, as well as 50% of a network of 16 medical clinics in Moscow jointly with the Doctor Ryad holding.
