Vector scientists spoke about the viability of Omicron on surfaces

The degree of infectivity of the Omicron coronavirus strain on various surfaces decreases over time, scientists at the Vector State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology have found out in a series of experiments.

“It has been established that the virus is most quickly inactivated on ceramics. A viable virus ceases to be detected in less than 24 hours, ”Vector said on January 17 in an interview with RIA Novosti.

During the experiments, scientists determined the viability of the virus on plastic, metal, ceramic tiles. All surfaces were at a relative humidity of 30-40%) and a temperature of 26-28 degrees Celsius. Separately, the performance of the strain in distilled water was evaluated.

The experts added that the dynamics of the decrease in infectivity in Omicron is the same as in previous strains. This allows us to continue to recommend disinfectants for disinfection and prevention.
