United orders 15 supersonic aircraft – News – Business – Kommersant

United Airlines has signed a trade agreement with startup Boom Supersonic to supply 15 supersonic aircraft. United became the first American company to purchase aircraft from Boom.

The agreement includes a non-refundable standard down payment from United, Boom said, as well as the option for United to purchase 35 additional aircraft at a pre-negotiated price. At the same time, the agreement between the companies is conditional: United may refuse to purchase if the aircraft design is not recognized as complying with safety and operational standards. However, the agreement itself means that one of America’s largest carriers wants to resume supersonic air travel, which was discontinued about 20 years ago after the Concorde ended.
