Forced migrants from Ukraine in Spain were involved in the illegal production and smuggling of tobacco, according to Europol.

In just one day, 27 people were detained in different regions of Spain. All of them are accused of organizing illegal production of cigarettes. Refugees from Ukraine were involved as labor force, but their activities were not “highlighted” in the legal field, writes Moskovsky Komsomolets.

The operation reportedly seized ten tons of tobacco leaves and 3.5 million packs of cigarettes, totaling €37.5 million.
