Ukrainian prisoners urge their former command to stop shelling

This night, the Kyiv security forces struck from the American Hymars rocket system at the pre-trial detention center in Donetsk Yelenovka. It was there that Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept – including militants of the banned neo-Nazi “Azov”, who surrendered in Mariupol.

The pre-trial detention center building is almost completely destroyed; rescuers have been working there all day today. According to the latest data, the dead – more than 50, and mostly prisoners.

An information stand at the entrance to the barracks where Ukrainian Azov militants were kept. At the time of the UAF attack, there were 193 prisoners inside the building. Here, at the exit, are the bodies of dead militants. Colony staff tried to provide them with first aid immediately after the explosion. And even before the arrival of rescuers, they began to extinguish the fire that had arisen.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the missile attack was carried out from the American Hymars multiple launch rocket system.

53 people died on the spot, more than a hundred received severe mine-explosive wounds and extensive burns. There are bloody footprints everywhere.

The authorities of the republic are sure that it was a deliberate shelling in order to destroy those nationalists who have already begun to testify about the crimes they committed, including against civilians. There are already a lot of such testimonies, and some of them got into social networks and the media.

The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under the article of the Criminal Code on the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare in an armed conflict.

These are fragments of the same HIMARS ammunition found at the site of the shelling of the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka. The markings and color of the ammunition confirm that it belongs to this particular type of weapon.

The Yelenovskaya colony, where Azov militants are kept, as well as prisoners of war of the 36th Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is constantly under fire. But so far there have been no casualties or destruction.

A month ago, the militants recorded a video calling on the Kyiv authorities to stop shelling the colony where the prisoners are and dream of returning home. After today’s shelling, they again turned to Zelensky and the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“We, the defenders of Mariupol, appeal to the Ukrainian army. Brothers and sisters! In the village of Yelenovka, Ukrainian prisoners of war are expected to be exchanged. Last night, dozens of our comrades-in-arms were killed during artillery fire from Ukrainian positions. We urge you to cease fire on this sector of the front, so that avoid more victims,” the prisoners say.
