Ukraine closes airspace for Belarusian airlines

Since midnight on May 29, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine establishes a ban on the use of the country’s airspace by aircraft registered in Belarus. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

“Restricting flights in the airspace of Belarus and transit flights for Belarusian companies are necessary steps to ensure the safety of aviation and passengers. Now the team of the Ministry of Infrastructure, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is working out operational solutions in order to attract new transit air routes to Ukraine. We count on the support of our international partners ”, – quoted the words of the head of the department Alexander Kubrakov (translated by“ Interfax ”).

Recall, on May 23, at the Minsk airport, at the direction of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, a Ryanair passenger plane was urgently landed, on board of which were the Belarusian opposition leader and ex-editor-in-chief of the Nexta Telegram channel Roman Protasevich and his girlfriend, a Russian citizen Sofia Sapega. They were detained, they are under arrest.
