“Appendicitis in the old days was called the monkey of all diseases, because it looks like a huge number of sores and, first of all, infectious diseases. Also, for a long time, banal appendicitis was often confused with salmonellosis, yersiniosis, even with some form of plague. At the moment, it can be confused with the same infectious diseases that I named, ”said Ilya Kolyshev.
According to the specialist, appendicitis can occur like acute gastritis or an acute stomach ulcer. In addition, the symptoms of appendicitis may be similar to acute pancreatitis or cholecystitis.
However, the surgeon emphasized that even unusual manifestations eventually become typical.
Kolyshev also noted that the pain of appendicitis, as a rule, is not relieved by conventional painkillers. He also stressed that paramedics, by specific signs, can understand that a person has appendicitis, even if it manifests itself atypically.
Earlier, on January 5, the surgeon at the SM-Clinic, candidate of medical sciences Aglam Nurpisov told Izvestia about the main misconceptions associated with appendicitis, as well as how not to miss this pathology.
One of the most common misconceptions is that the development of acute appendicitis can be prevented. For example, remove the appendix in advance. The doctor noted that the operation should be performed only according to indications, that is, with inflammation of the appendix and pain. Any unreasonable intervention can lead to serious health problems.
There is an opinion that the use of seeds can provoke the development of appendicitis. However, this relationship has not been proven.
It is also believed that the pain is usually localized to the right in the lower abdomen. However, the insidiousness of this disease is that it can occur anywhere in the abdominal cavity.
Appendicitis proceeds very quickly and is fraught with life-threatening complications. Therefore, the doctor recommended that if you experience any pain in the abdomen, seek medical help.
