The State Duma approved the project on the obligation of IT giants to open branches in Russia

The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill obliging foreign IT companies with a daily audience in the Russian Federation of 500 thousand people to open their branches in the country. Previously, the project was supported by the government.

As part of the draft law, IT companies are required to create a branch, representative office or authorized legal entity in Russia, register a personal account on the Roskomnadzor website, and post on their website an electronic form for feedback with Russian citizens and organizations. If companies do not comply with these requirements, they, in particular, may be prohibited from distributing advertising, as well as collecting personal data.

If adopted, the law may include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Google AdWords, YouTube, WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Steam, World Of Tanks.
