Demand for cars destined for the Japanese market has risen sharply recently in Russia, said Maria Pogrebets, spokeswoman for the Drom website.
According to her, the situation was affected by the strengthening of the ruble against the Japanese yen. Prices in showrooms cannot compete with Japanese auctions, so the population chooses a more complex but cheaper way to purchase a vehicle.
“For example, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which is in serious shortage at dealers and cheaper than 5-6 million rubles in Russia now cannot be bought, can be brought from Japan for 3 million rubles. The ruble has strengthened, and the yen, on the contrary, has not been so cheap for a long time, ”she said.
At the same time, Pogrebets added that Korean brands also began to enjoy attention. However, the local auction system is not as developed as in Japan.
Earlier, Autocar Japan reported on the hope of Japanese automakers for a speedy end to the Ukrainian crisis. Brands suffer significant losses due to the withdrawal from the Russian market.
