The number of Ukrainian prisoners killed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces increased to 53 people

The headquarters of the territorial defense of the Donetsk People’s Republic announced new data on the number of casualties among Ukrainian prisoners of war, killed and injured as a result of the shelling of the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the agency, during the strike on Friday, July 29, on the territory of the Volnovakha penal colony, 53 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 75 more were injured.

As previously reported, in addition to the prisoners from the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the nationalist formation “Azov”, eight employees of the penitentiary were injured.

The circumstances of the shelling, carried out using the US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, will be investigated as part of a criminal case initiated by the RF Investigative Committee under the article on the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare.

The Investigators are currently inspecting the scene.

In addition, the Russian Ministry of Defense has already commented on the situation, where they called the incident a “bloody provocation” and said that the Ukrainian side hit its own prisoners in order to intimidate the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who want to lay down their arms and surrender to the Russian military.
