Over the past six months, 249 thousand such cases were registered, which is 8.2% less than a year ago. Along with the decline in general statistics, there is also a decrease in illegal acts for all the most common tools and methods used by attackers, the statistics of the ministry testify.
This happened for the first time since 2020, the moment when the Ministry of Internal Affairs began to keep detailed statistics on crimes using information technology. Until that time, the reporting provided only general data on such cases.
Most of all, in absolute terms, the number of crimes involving plastic cards fell over the year – from 89.9 thousand to 61.9 thousand cases. In second place are the acts committed with the help of mobile communications, which decreased from 108.9 thousand to 95.1 thousand, or by 12.7%, and in the third place are those in which computer technology was used. Their number decreased by 16.4%, to 15.6 thousand, from last year’s 18.7 thousand, follows from the reporting. Izvestia sent a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In large banks (UBRD, Otkritie, GPB and MTS Bank), Izvestia was confirmed a decrease in the activity of fraudsters. The Central Bank reported that the main way to deceive citizens is still telephone fraud.
Interviewed experts explain the positive dynamics by increasing people’s awareness of the methods of attackers, as well as a decrease in the activity of criminals in the spring against the backdrop of a special operation. However, this trend is unlikely to continue in the future, experts believe.
