The US Congress urges Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to recognize Russia as a “State Sponsor of Terrorism.”

The inclusion of Moscow in the relevant list is unanimously supported by the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

According to the New York Times on Saturday, Blinken has been resisting pressure from lawmakers for weeks, as such a move would force the State Department to impose sanctions on US allies doing business with Russia.

Earlier, the US Senate adopted a symbolic resolution calling on the State Department to declare Russia a sponsor of terrorism. Blinken said that this decision will not mean consequences for Russia in practical terms, writes RIA Novosti.

In turn, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova promised not to leave Washington’s “propaganda move” unanswered.

According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin warned of extremely negative consequences for relations between the Russian Federation and the United States in this development of the situation.
