The name of the aircraft in the Sukhoi Superjet line should be changed, said the head of Rostec, Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov. He admitted that in the course of work on a new modification of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, a competition for a new name may be announced.
“We are creating a new modification of the Superjet, and this work is yet to come. I think that the name should be changed, of course. Why should a Russian-made aircraft be called an English abbreviation? Maybe we will announce an all-Russian competition, ”said Mr. Chemezov in an interview with RBC.
Recall that in 2019, the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company (transformed into a branch of Irkut, owned by Rostec; in the future, Irkut will enter the Corporate Aircraft Center) admitted that, as part of modernization and import substitution, it could change the name of the new Superjet modification. Prior to that, Mr. Chemezov told RBC that in the course of a possible rebranding “we can make our Russian name.”
