The Moscow Department of Transport announced the start of testing the digital ruble in the metro. For now, you can only buy a Troika travel card with CBDC.

Over time, the number of products and services supporting the third form of the Russian currency will be expanded.

Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov noted that test participants had already bought two types of “Troikas,” including 12 souvenir cards and one with a replenished wallet balance.

The initiative was supported by the Bank of Russia and VTB. The project was the first in the field of financial technologies, implemented in public transport jointly with the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Liksutov added.

“It is important for us to provide citizens with all the most modern and relevant domestic payment services. This corresponds to the task set by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin,” summed up the deputy head of the capital.

Testing of the digital ruble started on August 15. 13 banks joined it, including Alfa-Bank, Dom.rf, Ingosstrakh Bank, VTB, Gazprombank, Qiwi Bank, Ak Bars Bank, MTS Bank, Promsvyazbank, Sovcombank, Sinara Bank, Rosbank and TKB Bank.

In October, representatives of the Central Bank said that experimental operations with CBDC are mainly taking place on Android as the “most popular and loyal” platform. At the same time, users of iOS devices are faced with problems due to blocking of sanctioned banks.

Let us remind you that the law on national cryptocurrency came into force on August 1. Citizens of the Russian Federation will have the opportunity to massively use the new means of payment in 2025–2027.

In September, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation clarified the procedure for accounting for transactions with the digital ruble.

Banks later calculated the costs of implementing the technology. Rosbank estimated its expenses for two years at 150 million rubles.
