The Russian Ministry of Finance has improved the forecast for the budget deficit in 2021 to 1% of gross domestic product (GDP) from the previously planned 2.4%, said the head of the ministry Anton Siluanov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
“We have 2.4% of GDP according to the plan, we expect about 1% of GDP, if the situation does not change strongly in the second half of the year,” said Mr. Siluanov.
At the end of 2020, the federal budget deficit amounted to 3.8% of GDP, or 4.1 trillion rubles. In January 2021, the deficit amounted to RUB 185.6 billion.
