The National Music Academy of Ukraine named after Pyotr Tchaikovsky refused to remove the name of the Russian composer from the name.

During the meeting, the Kyiv Conservatory decided to appeal to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with a request to return the name of Tchaikovsky to the world. The staff of the academy refused to deprive the cultural institution of its name.

“Tchaikovsky, like Shakespeare, does not belong to one specific people, he belongs to the whole world,” Yuri Rybchinsky, a member of the Academic Council of the Conservatory, quotes the Politika Strana Telegram channel.

During the meeting held on June 16, all members of the council unanimously voted for an appeal to the head of state and other leaders of the country. Academy staff believe that the composer’s name is being manipulated “like an imperial narrative.”

In Europe, the phenomenon of the abolition of Russian culture remains popular. Recently, an action was held in Milan to support the art of Russia.
