The American economy is waiting for a slowdown. At the same time, avoiding a recession will be increasingly difficult, said Kristalina Georgieva, director of the International Monetary Fund.
At the moment, the US economy continues to recover from the pandemic, but this process is complicated by a number of factors. Among them are a Russian special operation and anti-COVID measures taken in China. Negative shocks in the future will also complicate the situation.
“Given the course set at the June meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee and the expected reduction in the budget deficit, we expected the US economy to slow down. We recognize that the path to avoiding a recession in the US is narrowing. We must recognize the uncertainty of the current situation,” explained Georgieva.
The head of the IMF also expressed support for the initiatives of US President Joe Biden. According to her, there is a chance that they will rebuild the American economy.
Earlier, the Fed recognized the probability of a recession. However, according to the department, it remains low.
