By May 25, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industry and Trade should prepare proposals for regulating prices for primary polymers – the raw materials from which packaging is made. At a meeting of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on May 18, producers of meat, milk, bread, drinks and butter talked about the rise in price of packaging in some cases by 70-80%, Izvestia reports with reference to the protocol of the event.
The Ministry of Energy told the newspaper that on behalf of the government, it has created a working group to consider issues of pricing for petrochemical products. The agency conducts factor analysis of prices for primary polymers and studies their impact on the cost of packaging. The ministry notes that the share of primary polymers in the cost of plastic packaging is 40%.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade claims that the estimated cost of packaging in the cost of food products is 5%. The department does not expect that the situation with polymers will significantly affect food prices. The Ministry of Agriculture considers it important to ensure a balance of supply and demand in the field of packaging materials to maintain a stable situation in the food market.
The Gazprombank Center for Economic Forecasting previously reported that in the first quarter, polyethylene and polypropylene in Russia rose by 20-30%, polystyrene – by 30%, ammonia – by 65-70%. The rise in price is associated with the situation in the world market – with natural disasters in the United States in February and March and with a sharp rise in the cost of logistics.
More details about the rise in price are in the material of Kommersant, Polybezmery.
