The Elysee Palace said they are discussing the issue of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT

Restrictions against the Russian Federation through the restriction of the use of SWIFT are still under discussion, the French government said.

Now possible sanctions against Russia are being “discussed”, which could limit Moscow’s access to the international payment system. The relevant data was shared by the French authorities.

At the same time, Reuters previously reported that disconnecting Russia from the global payment structure is excessive and not of interest.

According to the AFP agency, which refers to the Elysee Palace, Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron held talks by phone. The conversation between the leaders lasted almost two hours.

“The goal is to develop sanctions that will really hit Russia, but at the same time monitor the associated risks with the knowledge that sanctions will hit Europe harder,” one Reuters source said earlier.

According to some reports, sanctions in the event of an escalation in Ukraine may be imposed by Brussels and Washington against the domestic banking sector and a number of businessmen.
