The choice between heating and production // The IMF assessed the consequences of the gas crisis for Germany

A complete halt in Russian gas supplies to Germany will lead to a deficit of 9% of national consumption in the second half of 2022, 10% in 2023 and 4% in 2024. This forecast is given by economists of the International Monetary Fund in a paper published on the organization’s website. In this scenario, the German economy will miss 4.8% of GDP in three years. The current plan of the government of the country assumes a smoother reduction in gas imports from the Russian Federation, but according to it, the share of supplies should also decrease from 35% to 10% by mid-2024. .
