The Government of the Russian Federation will send more than 10 billion rubles to the regions for additional payments to non-working pensioners whose income is below the subsistence level. This was announced on July 28 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

“Let’s start with a question that concerns the fulfillment of social obligations to citizens. The government co-finances the expenses of Russian subjects in such an important area. And today we will allocate more than 10 billion rubles to support non-working pensioners, ”he said at a Cabinet meeting.

The Prime Minister specified that the regions will receive funds for social supplements to the pensions of citizens whose income is less than the subsistence level. Since June 1, the cost of living has been increased by 10%, he recalled.

“The burden on Russian subjects has grown. Federal subsidies will make it possible to compensate them for the costs associated with this, to pay allowances to more than 1 million people, ”Mishustin concluded.

Earlier, on July 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the reduction of poverty in the country the main goal of the government. He noted that following the results of last year, the level of poverty in the country decreased to 11%.

Prior to this, on May 25, the head of state called for a 10% increase in pensions for non-working pensioners from June 1. Thus, their average amount was 19,360 rubles.
