The head of the administration of Volgograd, Vladimir Marchenko, signed a resolution on naming the passage between the Sovetsky and Kirovsky districts of the city after the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Zinaida Stepykina.
The initiative to perpetuate the memory of the defender of Stalingrad was made by representatives of the veteran community of the Kirov region, according to the online publication “MK in Volgograd”. Zinaida Petrovna Stepykina was born in 1923 in the Novaya Otrada farm, which was located on the territory of the modern Kirovsky district.
She participated in the Battle of Stalingrad as part of the 64th Army as a medical instructor. During the war, Zinaida Stepykina was wounded three times. Together with the troops, she reached Prague. She was awarded military orders and medals for her heroic deeds.
After the war, Zinaida Stepykina returned to Stalingrad, where she worked for 50 years in Clinical Hospital No. 1. Veteran of the Great Patriotic War died on June 25, 2022.
