Shoigu congratulated military personnel and veterans on Airborne Forces Day

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday, August 2, congratulated military personnel and veterans on the Day of the Airborne Forces (VDV). The text of congratulations was published by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The head of the Russian defense department noted that the “winged infantry” was and remains the guarantor of the security of our Motherland. He recalled that the paratroopers always performed their duty, demonstrated the highest professionalism, stamina and courage, including during the Great Patriotic War.

“Taking part in a special military operation, the personnel of the Airborne Forces act boldly, competently and promptly, constantly proving their readiness and ability to solve assigned tasks in the most difficult conditions,” Shoigu said.

He thanked the military for their faithful service and military work, and also wished them good health, happiness, prosperity and new achievements.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the personnel and veterans of the Airborne Troops on Airborne Forces Day. He noted that the paratroopers have always been strong in character and will, fearlessness and fraternal mutual assistance, readiness to defend the Fatherland at the first call.

In turn, the commander of the Airborne Forces, Colonel-General Mikhail Teplinskiy, said that during the special operation to protect the Donbass, 17 paratroopers received the title of Hero of Russia. In addition, more than 5,000 servicemen have been awarded state awards.

In 2022, the Airborne Forces celebrate their 92nd birthday. On this occasion, a festive program is planned in Moscow. The company of the guard of honor of cadets of the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Order of Suvorov is expected to perform at the twice Red Banner Command School named after General of the Army V.F. Margelov and the Consolidated Military Band of the Airborne Forces.

In addition, a ceremonial parade of parade units of the Airborne Forces, military-patriotic clubs of a landing orientation, and the Yunarmiya VVPOD will be organized in the city. Then there will be a festive concert called “For Russia, for mine!”, In which, among others, the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Airborne Forces will take part.

From 6:00 to 13:00 in connection with the celebration of the Day of the Airborne Forces, traffic will be limited along Ilyinka Street. Restrictions will also affect Vasilievsky Spusk Square.

In St. Petersburg, the festive program will begin with a solemn and mourning meeting in the Margelov square on Primorsky Prospekt. After that, laying flowers at the Eternal Flame is planned on the Field of Mars, and a festive concert will be held in the park of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg.
