US authorities announced their intention to include the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream in projects regulated by the law on combating US opponents through sanctions, reports TASS.
A statement on July 15 was made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. He noted that the US Department of State is updating the manual on the law. As a result, the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream will be included in it. According to Pompeo, after the new edition of the management comes into force, investments and other activities related to the above pipelines will be at risk of sanctions.
Earlier, as reported by Rambler, the head of the German Ministry of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said that claims to the “Nord Stream-2” from the United States and other countries in most cases are not justified. She stressed that opponents of the project, as a rule, refer to the fact that Nord Stream-2 will increase the dependence of European countries on Russian gas, undermine the security of Ukraine and Poland, and also allow Russia to send more money to strengthen military power. Responding to claims, Kramp-Karrenbauer noted that Europeans are developing alternative sources of energy, the security of Ukraine and Poland is often mentioned in a political context, and the United States criticizes the Russian gas pipeline because it is promoting liquefied natural gas to the European market.
