Russia still has questions to the European Commission

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the decision of the European Commission on Kaliningrad transit a manifestation of sanity. Her statement was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. At the same time, questions from the Russian side to the EU remain.

As Zakharova said, now Moscow is carefully studying the explanations provided by the EC, analyzing them from the point of view of implementing a priority task – the life support of the Kaliningrad region.

“There will be close monitoring of how these EU steps will be implemented in practice,” the diplomat said.

Earlier, on July 13, the European Commission published instructions for member countries regarding the transit of goods from Russia. It contains explanations on Kaliningrad transit. Thus, according to the document, the transportation of prohibited goods by motorways organized by Russian operators is not allowed. But such a ban does not apply to rail transport – here the transit of goods is allowed subject to the necessary control. The transit of sanctioned military or dual-use goods and technologies is completely prohibited, regardless of the mode of transport.
