Russia may ban plastic dishes and cotton swabs

In Russia, it is planned to prohibit the use of certain types of plastic products at the legislative level. The relevant amendments are being prepared by the government, said Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko, speaking at the IX Nevsky International Environmental Forum.

“We are preparing amendments to the legislation prohibiting the use of non-recyclable and hard-to-recover materials. Such as colored plastic, plastic tubes, cotton swabs and disposable plastic dishes, ”said Ms Abramchenko. In addition, it is planned to involve in circulation up to 50% of secondary raw materials from waste in construction, agriculture and industry. The authorities expect that by 2030 the volume of landfills will be halved.

In December last year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade opposed the ban on plastic bags proposed by the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus. In particular, they discussed the ban on the circulation of certain types of plastic packaging in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.
