Russia is in favor of negotiations with Ukraine, but the West forbids Kyiv to negotiate

Russia has never refused negotiations with Ukraine, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

Everyone knows that hostilities end at the negotiating table. Therefore, Russia has never refused negotiations with Ukraine. But there is no response from Kyiv, said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“When Ukraine proposed negotiations at an early stage of the Russian military operation, we agreed. Several rounds took place, which led to a very interesting stage on March 29 in Istanbul, when the Ukrainian side proposed a version of the treaty, which we supported and notified our Kyiv colleagues about this. Since then, we have not received any response from Ukraine, although, I emphasize again, we agreed with their approach, in fact,” Lavrov said.

Russia knows “that our colleagues such as the United States, Great Britain and a number of European countries have forbidden the Ukrainians to negotiate with us on the basis that I mentioned,” Lavrov concluded.
