Rosstat estimated annual inflation in May at 6.02%


Inflation in Russia in May in annual terms amounted to 6.02%, according to Rosstat data on the consumer price index. Annual inflation accelerated by 5.53% in comparison with the April level.

  • Rising prices for Food for the year amounted to 8.07%, the highest growth in food groups was noted among the prices for chilled and frozen chicken (19.65%). Over the month, the most noticeable growth was seen in prices for beets (+ 35.3%), while prices for tomatoes (-8.3%) declined.
  • In the category non-food products, according to Rosstat, tobacco publications rose the most (13.22%), in the service category – prices for hotel services (22.68%).
  • Height consumer prices by December last year amounted to 3.48%.
  • Inflation for the period from January to May 2021 compared to the same period last year increased by 5.64%.

Earlier, the Department of Research and Forecasting of the Central Bank, focusing on the weekly measurements of Rosstat, said that inflation will go to a steady decline not earlier than autumn. Analysts noted that the economic recovery is not accompanied by an increase in the number of new companies, as newly formed companies are more likely to close.
