There is a split in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) between employees who fled the territories liberated by Russia and those who accuse colleagues of losing secret archives and switching subordinates to Moscow’s side. This was announced on August 2, with reference to SBU officers, by a representative of the Russian law enforcement agencies.
“According to sources in the SBU, between colleagues who fled from the territories now controlled by Russia, and a new generation of Ukrainian counterintelligence officers brought up in the spirit of the “revolution of dignity” (the coup in Ukraine in 2014
. – Ed.), tension and suspicion are growing. Old cadres are losing trust and positions in the power bloc, ”RIA Novosti quotes him.
According to an employee of the Russian law enforcement agency, the older generation is accused of careless attitude to state secrets, negligence in the safety of official documents and big flaws in intelligence work, when an unacceptable number of agents begins to work for Russia.
As an additional confirmation of this information, an employee of the Russian law enforcement agency called the statement of the leader of the extremist organization “Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people” banned in the Russian Federation, Refat Chubarov, that the archives abandoned by the SBU in Kherson revealed the illegal activities of the Ukrainian special services against the Crimean Tatars under the Kiev regime.
“Even old, proven cadres like Chubarov began to allow themselves public criticism of their friends and resent the activities of the SBU,” said a representative of the Russian security forces.
Earlier, on July 22, the Russian law enforcement agencies reported that the SBU began preparing for the evacuation of its employees from Kherson, as well as the destruction of classified materials a year before the start of Russia’s special military operation. In particular, documents related to the work of the SBU with its Kherson agents, which obtained information for the Ukrainian security forces in order to put pressure on representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and Cossack communities identified as pro-Russian, were subject to destruction.
Prior to this, on July 17, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky removed the country’s Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova and the head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov from their posts. Later, he explained that personnel changes took place against the backdrop of an abundance of facts of treason on the part of employees of departments.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). It was preceded by an aggravation of the situation in the region, an appeal by the leadership of the Donbass republics to the Russian Federation with a request for help, and the subsequent recognition by Russia of the independence of the DPR and LPR.
Kyiv has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état in Ukraine, since 2014.
