Reuters: EU to test Google for online ad abuse

EU antitrust authorities may open an investigation against Google by the end of 2021, Reuters reports, citing sources. According to the agency, the claims against the company relate to its advertising business.

The European Commission intends to investigate Google’s relationship with advertisers, publishers, intermediaries and competitors, the agency’s source said. According to him, this investigation will be larger than the one recently completed in France. As a reminder, according to its results, the company was fined € 220 million for using its dominant position in the market to promote its own advertising services on the Internet.

Last year, Google earned $ 147 billion from online advertising. The bulk of its revenue comes from advertising in search, as well as in Gmail and YouTube services.
