Putin signed a law on free gasification

President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the free-of-charge gas pipeline connection to sections of houses that are located near the inner-settlement gas pipelines. The bill was developed by the government on behalf of the head of state. The State Duma and the Federation Council adopted it in early June.

In his message to the Federal Assembly on April 21, the President called it unacceptable for Russians to pay for gas connection to households located near the intra-settlement gas pipelines. He instructed the government to accelerate the gasification of such households without attracting funds from the population. Gasification will be carried out for areas that are located no further than 200 m from the gas distribution network. Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko offered to conduct a gas pipeline to the house for free, and not to the site.

The owner of the Unified Gas Supply System, Gazprom, has been identified as the single operator of gasification. Where the company is not present, regional operators will be created. Gasification should last until 2023. According to the government, the law will affect about 2 million households.
