Peskov: at the SPIEF, Putin will assess Russia’s economic development

During his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russian President Vladimir Putin will assess the country’s socio-economic development, said his press secretary Dmitry Peskov. The meeting with the participation of the President will be held today, June 4, at 14:00. He will participate in it internally.

According to Mr. Peskov, due to the cancellation of the SPIEF last year, the forum participants were “bored”. As a Kremlin spokesman said, “skeptics predicted a lower level of business participation,” but the forum this year was “full house.”

“Traditionally, Putin evaluates the current stage of socio-economic development, he evaluates the stage passed. That is, one way or another, we will hear what happened over the past year, what consequences we have and how we deal with them, ”Dmitry Peskov said on the air of Channel One. He added that also “everyone is waiting for some kind of signals for business,” because “such signals are now in demand.”

Today’s SPIEF meeting will be attended by Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, they will join the discussion via video link.

In 2020, SPIEF was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year the forum is being held from 2 to 5 June at the Expoforum Exhibition and Convention Center.

The day before, Vladimir Putin took part in absentia in the ceremony of signing investment agreements. In an address to the participants in the ceremony, he said that the Russian economy is getting out of the difficult situation that has arisen against the backdrop of the pandemic.
