Netanyahu criticizes Israeli authorities for conflict with Russia

Israel’s national security is in danger because of the course chosen by Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz in relations with Russia. Such a statement was made on July 26 by former Israeli Prime Minister and head of the Likud party, Benjamin Netanyahu.

“For many years we have had a thoughtful, balanced and responsible relationship with Russia. In recent days, I am worried that what we have been building for years is crumbling right before our eyes in recent weeks. This is due to a combination of amateurism, irresponsibility and arrogance. There is one request for Lapid and Gantz – to stop your behavior that poses a threat to our national security. If the crisis is not stopped immediately, this could lead to serious damage to our security, ”N12 quoted the politician as saying.

Thus, Netanyahu commented on the statement of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, who called Israel’s position on the situation around Ukraine unconstructive and biased. Zakharova also noted that the anti-Russian assessments by the Israeli leadership were framed exclusively in the pro-Ukrainian direction, “and not in terms of the Ukrainian people, but only in support of the Kyiv regime.”

On July 21, the Moscow Basmanny Court announced that the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation had sent a request to the court to liquidate the Sokhnut agency associated with the repatriation of Jews to Israel from Russia.

On the same day that in connection with the possible liquidation of the Sokhnut representative office in Russia, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid decided to send a delegation to the Russian Federation, which would discuss the possibility of continuing the agency’s activities in Russia. It is noted that the delegation will be sent to Russia next week.

On July 26, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, commented on the situation around Sokhnut, assuring journalists that this case should not be projected onto the entire complex of relations between Israel and the Russian Federation, adding that there are questions to the agency in terms of compliance with Russian legislation.
