Moscow launches production of medicines for orphan diseases and asthma

A resident of the special economic zone (SEZ) Technopolis Moscow, launched a workshop for the production of drugs for the treatment of bronchial asthma, cardiovascular, rare and hereditary diseases. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations Vladimir Yefimov on Friday, July 29.

“The enterprise rented a room of about 500 square meters at the Alabushevo site. m, where it located a workshop for secondary packaging and production of drugs for the treatment of complications of bronchial asthma and rare, so-called orphan diseases, including Gaucher’s disease and cystic fibrosis,” the Moscow city news agency quotes the vice-mayor.

He noted that the drug manufacturer Generium-Next received the status of a resident of the Moscow Special Economic Zone in 2021.

“The first batches of products have already been sent to various institutions. It is planned that the workshop will produce more than 150 thousand units of products annually, and will reach full capacity by the end of 2024,” the official said.

Efimov added that dozens of Moscow public and private medical organizations are currently the company’s customers.

By 2024, the company plans to build its own plant at the Alabushevo site and invest almost five billion rubles in this, NSN reports.

In turn, the head of the investment and industrial policy department, Vladislav Ovchinsky, said that after the launch of its own workshops, the company will produce substances and finished dosage forms, as well as primary and secondary packaging for medicines. He stressed that the company plans to create at least 250 new jobs.

Gennady Degtev, General Director of the Moscow SEZ, specified that all drugs produced by this resident of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ are included by the Russian Ministry of Health in the list of vital and essential drugs.
