Monkeypox in Russia: Rospotrebnadzor statement

The press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported that there were no new confirmed cases of monkeypox in Russia. The situation is under control, officials said.

The country is taking all necessary measures to prevent the risks of importing the infection from abroad, as well as its spread. At the border, the sanitary-quarantine regime has been strengthened immediately after the first reports of the emergence of a new disease.

“Today, throughout Russia, there is the possibility of prompt testing for monkeypox. Comprehensive methodological recommendations have been brought to medical institutions on the procedure for identifying people with suspected this disease,” the Rospotrebnadzor said in a statement.

Earlier, the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, declared the outbreak of monkeypox to be a public health emergency. The current situation is of international importance, from the point of view of WHO.
