Moldovan Prime Minister Gavrilitsa instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to check the safety of fruits and vegetables

Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilitsa at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to check the safety of fruits and vegetables against the backdrop of Russia’s ban on the export of agricultural products from the republic.

The day before, the Rosselkhoznadzor announced the introduction of a ban on the import of plant products from a number of Moldovan regions from August 15.

“We received information that harmful insects were found in fruits and vegetables from Moldova, therefore a ban on exports to the Russian Federation has been introduced. I ask you to seriously study this signal … we must take care of product safety, preserve traditional markets. Please tighten checks, look for new solutions, if necessary – to hire companies that will issue certificates for export,” RIA Novosti quotes Gavrilitsa.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova stated that they had not received an official message from the Russian Federation about the identified violations. The department noted that they are ready to check each case and notify Rosselkhoznadzor of the measures taken.
