French President Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was announced on August 1 by the BFM TV channel.

“The conversation of the presidents, which began around noon, has now been completed,” the report says.

According to the channel, this was the first conversation between Macron and Zelensky since their meeting in Kyiv on June 16. It is assumed that one of the topics of the negotiations was the export of grain from Odessa.

On August 1, the Strategic Culture Foundation reported that tensions could arise between Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen over negotiations with Russia.

On July 14, Macron said that France intends to avoid a world war and will seek an end to the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, he does not want the intervention of the Republic.

On June 30, the French president announced his readiness to negotiate with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, if there are grounds for this. According to Macron, in cases where significant issues can be resolved in a short time through negotiations, they must be carried out.

On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. It began against the backdrop of the situation in the region that worsened in mid-February.
