The United States is checking the data on three Americans who went to fight in Ukraine and do not get in touch. This was stated by State Department spokesman Ned Price. The information that American mercenaries were captured near Kharkov was published by the British edition of The Telegraph. Meanwhile, the head of the British Ministry of Defense Ben Wallace reported on the state of affairs in the Ukrainian army. According to him, Russia is 20 times larger than Ukraine in terms of the number of artillery. And this despite Western supplies.
The Ukrainian military is testing gifts from Western partners. The helmet does not withstand a shot even from a trauma.
With friends like that, you don’t need enemies. According to David Arakhamia, the same one who led the Kyiv delegation at the peace talks with Russia, Ukrainian troops daily lose up to five thousand people killed in Donbass.
“The Kyiv regime will not give inflated losses, it will only give underestimated losses, and by 2-3 times, no less. The main task, of course, is to show that, indeed, allegedly the Kyiv regime suffers losses due to the fact that it there are not enough heavy weapons,” explains military expert, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces Yuri Knutov.
Appetite comes during war. Kyiv demands more weapons. Zelensky is like the Greek king Tantalus, doomed to eternal hunger. The entire collective West is no longer able to feed it.
“A changing list of requests comes in from Kyiv every day. Allies and I are trying to determine who is ready to deliver what. It’s difficult, because requests change quickly. we are considering the issue of armored vehicles,” said Julianne Smith, Permanent Representative to NATO.
And yet NATO will increase the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine. Though it will give less than Kyiv dreamed. Some countries gave away everything they had in warehouses, others are signaling that stocks are running out.
“The potential of Western deliveries is not as great as it seems. And, of course, it is becoming more and more problematic for the West to organize new deliveries, since a significant part, if not most of the weapons that have been delivered to Ukraine, have already been destroyed by the Russian army,” the deputy emphasizes. Vladimir Shapovalov, director of the Institute of History and Politics of the Moscow State Pedagogical University.
And the United States will again have to be the main donor. They have already approved a military aid package for another $1 billion. In addition to the States, Germany and Great Britain can also chip in equipment. True, instead of 500 tanks they promise about half, of the thousand requested howitzers – about a quarter. The most difficult thing is with multiple launch rocket systems. Ukraine asks for 300 pieces, but is unlikely to receive a sixth.
“This aid package includes, among other things, guided munitions for MLRS, an additional 18 M777 howitzers and tactical vehicles to tow them, as well as 36,000 155mm rounds. This package also includes $650 million under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which will help it defend itself with two additional Harpoon coastal defense systems and thousands of radio stations for classified communications, night vision devices, thermal imaging systems and other optical devices,” said US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
NATO is going to completely transfer the Armed Forces of Ukraine to more expensive Western weapons. More about this will be discussed at the summit in Madrid, which will be held at the end of the month.
“Our allies have announced additional assistance to Ukraine. They will send heavy weapons and long-range systems that Kyiv so badly needs. We also discussed long-term support for Ukraine. At the summit in two weeks, leaders will approve a new comprehensive assistance package that will help Ukraine move from the post-Soviet weapons to modern NATO weapons and get closer to the alliance,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The unprecedented assistance already provided in Kyiv was considered a sop. Ukraine needs weapons here and now, it is not the quality that matters, but the quantity.
“Is this an adequate response to our real needs and our request? I don’t think so. In reality, we need two or three times more,” says Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the President’s Office of Ukraine.
Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov, in turn, said in an interview with CNN that only the heavy weapons that Kyiv hopes to receive from the West will allow Nezalezhnaya to return Crimea and Donbass. Previously, President Zelensky shared similar fantasies. They have already written in the comments: so far Ukraine has more chances to join Crimea than Crimea to Ukraine.
