Kosachev on sanctions against Nord Stream 2: The United States became a blackmailer

American sanctions are already half the world, but neither Russia and China, nor even smaller countries will change to please Washington, said the head of the Federation Council international committee, Konstantin Kosachev.

“US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell reiterated Washington’s plans to impose new sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 project. Allegedly, the measures have already been approved by both parties of the American Congress, and this despite the ongoing presidential election campaign in the US,” the senator wrote in FB.

Knowing the usual intensity of the inter-party confrontation during this period, we can say that Russophobia works wonders, the parliamentarian said. “Yes, and the ambassador himself was not shy in expressions: Germany supposedly must stop” feeding the beast “(this, to make it clear, about the sovereign relations of its ally with its long-term energy partner),” while it itself does not pay enough for NATO ” – The statement is more than boorish even for an American, “said Kosachev.

But the politician’s curious statement is that back in February at the Munich Security Conference, the US Secretary of Energy assured partners that Russia would not be able to complete the Nord Stream 2 pipeline under US sanctions because it lacked the necessary technology, he added. “The current sanctions threats indicate that the Americans still believe in us, more than anyone else,” said the senator.

According to him, another thing is depressing – the rapid degradation of America from a global power, which set the tone in the formation of world economic institutions, into an “aggressive self-serving dictator who has no measures left in his arsenal but sanctions.”

After all, these economic repressions do not achieve the stated goals of changing the behavior of other countries, the legislator emphasized. “Even small Cuba does not change itself to please its huge neighbor. Moreover, China or Russia will not do it, and after all, more than half of the world’s population is under American sanctions. That is, the goal is not to pressure, but the damage itself,” Kosachev emphasized.

At the same time, the legislator noted that causing significant economic damage in order to subordinate one’s own ideology is not much different from “classical” terrorism. The United States has become the world’s No. 1 blackmailer, from which even its own allies suffer.

According to the head of the Federation Council committee, the intensification of US aggressive behavior is taking place against the backdrop of calls by many authoritative politicians, including the UN Secretary General, to stop sanctions activity, given the need to counter the common viral threat.

“This is all the more important for Europe, which also has to rebuild its economy, which makes the need to reduce the cost of production and social expenses very urgent. But the US goal is not to help its partners, but to sell its expensive gas at any cost,” the politician emphasized.

And while Washington explains its measures to “strangle” Europe’s energy cooperation with Russia by countering the alleged European dependence on Moscow, “de facto America is fighting Europe’s independence,” he said.

Moreover, everything is grosser and grosser, judging by the unceremoniousness with which the ambassador pointed to Berlin underpayments at the NATO cash desk, the parliamentarian concluded.
