In Zaporozhye announced the desire of representatives of the EU and the US to become observers in the referendum

Parliamentarians from 16 countries of the European Union (EU) and North America are ready to act as observers at a referendum in the Zaporozhye region on joining Russia. This was announced on Sunday, July 31, by Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the military-civilian administration (CAA) of the region.

“Today there are deputies of national parliaments, federal lands of various levels – a total of 16 countries. These are the countries of the European Union and North America,” Rogov told reporters.

According to him, the vast majority of observers are from those states that have imposed sanctions against Russia, including personal ones. Among them are representatives of Germany, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Poland, the USA, France and the Baltic countries.

Rogov also added that the authorities of the region intend to apply to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia for advice on organizing and holding a referendum in order to “speak the same language – the language of Russian law.”

The decree on the election commission for holding a referendum on the entry of the Zaporozhye region into the Russian Federation was signed on July 23. According to the decision of the head of the regional administration, the election commission was formed in Energodar.

As noted by the authorities of the region, Zaporizhia region can receive security guarantees only as a subject of the Russian Federation, so a referendum on accession will be held, despite Kyiv’s attempts to prevent this.

Earlier in July, it was reported that at least 50% of residents living in the territories of the Zaporozhye region that have left the control of Ukraine are ready to vote for joining the Russian Federation. The turnout in the referendum could be about 70%. This is evidenced by the data of the conducted sociological research.

Part of the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine (Priazovye) was liberated during a special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. To date, about 70% of the territories have been liberated. Under the control of Kyiv remains the administrative center of the region – the city of Zaporozhye, its function is temporarily performed by Melitopol.

In May, the authorities of the Zaporozhye region announced their desire to become part of Russia as a full-fledged subject – the Zaporozhye Republic. A referendum on joining the Russian Federation should be held this fall.
