Russian air defense systems repelled an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) in Melitopol, according to a RIA Novosti correspondent on Monday, August 8.

It is noted that Ukrainian troops fired two rockets at about 00:30 at night.

It is also reported that there is no electricity in the area of ​​the railway station.

Earlier, on August 4, the deputy head of the administration of the Kherson region, Kirill Stremousov, said that the Ukrainian military carried out a missile attack on Kherson, and the Russian air defense system (air defense) worked. He clarified that there were no hits on bridges and other infrastructure.

As Stremousov clarified, the Antonovsky bridge across the Dnieper, which connects the city of Kherson with the region, could become the target of the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Prior to that, on July 30, the head of the administration of the Kakhovka district of the Kherson region, Volodymyr Leontiev, said that the air defense system of the Kherson region repulsed all the attacks of the Ukrainian military from the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. The station continues to operate normally, he said.

In addition, on July 28, air defense intercepted 10 shells of the Alder and HIMARS multiple rocket launchers over the Kherson region. As noted in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region, the shells of Ukrainian troops were intercepted the day before over the villages of the region and the city of Kherson itself.

On July 24, Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the military-civilian administration (CAA) of the region, announced an attempt by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike at Melitopol. Russian air defense repulsed the attack, the air target was destroyed, he added.

Russia continues the special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. The situation in the region escalated in February due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. DPR and LPR turned to Moscow for help.
