The wildfire season this year is going better than last year, but the authorities should not relax, because the peak of the summer fire season is expected in mid-July. The head of Rosleskhoz, Ivan Sovetnikov, spoke about this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“The season of this year is going better than last year, although the number of fires is higher. We are doing well in terms of area. In our regions, such as Yakutia or Magadan, we have a very strong decrease in fire. But we are only in the middle of the season, this is absolutely no reason to relax. We hope for the best, but prepare for the worst,” Sovetnikov said.
According to the head of Rosleskhoz, the fire hazard season runs all year round: the last fires are recorded in December, the first – already in January.
“The summer peak of the season will, as always, be in mid-July. By mid-August, we are waiting for the traditional decline in the summer peak,” Sovetnikov noted.
