It is necessary to update the financial model of the road bridge from Russia to the DPRK, taking into account the forecast cargo flows. This was told to Rossiyskaya Gazeta by the head of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East Alexei Chekunkov.

In 2018, the former deputy head of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East, Alexander Krutikov, announced that it was planned to build a road bridge from Russia to the DPRK. Then it was planned that North Korea would provide workers and part of the building materials, while the Russian side would provide equipment and building materials. Later in April 2019, in Vladivostok, at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the construction of a road bridge was also discussed. After that, the governor of the Primorsky Territory, Oleg Kozhemyako, announced that the feasibility study for the bridge across the Tumannaya border river was ready and transferred to the Ministry for the Development of the Far East.

“Also, North Korea is interested in creating a road bridge across the Tumangan. It is necessary to update the financial model of this bridge, taking into account the forecast cargo flows, in order to understand what goods can go through this bridge. In general, the transport corridor that exists between Russia and North Korea is not functioning today We are incurring losses,” Chekunkov said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
