Galushchenko: We will not export electricity if Ukraine does not have enough of it

The Ministry of Energy denied the emergence of a shortage within the country due to the export of electricity to Europe.

Minister of Energy German Galushchenko said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“No, I don’t see any risks. We have a surplus in the system. And we will not export if we do not have enough in the system,” he assured.

The politician stressed that the top priority is the uninterrupted supply of electricity to their own citizens.

This is a win-win situation, it is good for us and for them. This is good for the market: we receive funds, remove surplus issues, and the Europeans, consuming our electricity, use Russian gas and coal less,” the head of the Ministry of Energy explained.

According to him, the first commercial export to the EU within the framework of ENTSO-E (European Network of Electricity Transmission System Operators) is not very large – 100 MW, while technical capabilities allow 2 GW. At the same time, Ukraine hopes to increase its capacity up to 6 GW at the expense of the lines. An agreement has already been signed with Poland, there are projects with Romania and others.

“As soon as we reach the desired volumes, I am sure that we will have no problems with the implementation, including in Germany. And as soon as we increase the commercial volume, I am sure that we will not have any questions in terms of risks,” Galushchenko added.

Electricity is our export product, he stressed.

As Ukrinform reported, on March 16, Ukraine officially joined the unified energy system of continental Europe ENTSO-E.

On June 30, the long-awaited export of Ukrainian electricity to Europe, in particular, in the direction of Romania, began.
