Foreign Ministry considers unscrupulous accusations of the Russian Federation in plans to use nuclear weapons

None of the scenarios for the use of nuclear weapons by Russia is applicable to the situation in Ukraine. This was stated on August 2 by the representative of the Russian delegation Alexander Trofimov during his speech at the conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) at the UN.

“We would like to resolutely reject the completely groundless and unrealistic and unacceptable speculation that Russia allegedly threatens to use nuclear weapons, in particular, in Ukraine. We do not rule out that this is being done on purpose – in order to whip up anti-Russian hysteria, ”he said.

He pointed out that the accusations against the Russian side regarding nuclear weapons are an unscrupulous interpretation of the statements of the Russian leadership. Meanwhile, Russia is fulfilling its obligations under the Budapest Memorandum, including on the non-use of nuclear weapons.

According to Trofimov, Moscow allows the use of nuclear weapons only in response to aggression using weapons of mass destruction.
