Experts urged the United States to open channels of communication with the Russian Federation for the sake of a compromise

The United States needs to start opening channels of communication with Russia and looking for ways to compromise. This point of view was made by experts, whose opinion is quoted on July 27 by the American newspaper The New York Times.

“The United States and its allies must certainly continue to supply Ukraine with the necessary equipment, but they must also, in close consultation with Kyiv, begin to open channels of communication with Russia,” says the article, written by political expert at the RAND Corporation think tank Samuel Cherep and academic Director of the analytical center “European Council on Foreign Relations” Jeremy Shapiro.

According to the authors of the publication, the start of negotiations may require tangible efforts from the diplomatic departments, and the successful achievement of a compromise in this situation is not guaranteed.

“But the conversation can reveal a possible space for compromise and define a way out of the spiral,” Cherep and Shapiro said.

On July 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that all questions about why Ukraine does not agree to peace talks should be addressed to the United States. Prior to that, on July 20, he noted that Ukraine would be restrained from any constructive actions and would not be allowed to negotiate with Russia. He also noted that the US and Britain want to turn the conflict in Ukraine into a full-scale military clash between Russia and Europe.

On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
