
Cairo, 2 February. The first persons of Egypt and Mauritania signed a memorandum on expanding military cooperation. This was reported on the official website of the government of the republic.
On the eve of the Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanen Ould Sidi paid a working visit to Cairo. He met with the head of state, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
“The parties discussed the development of bilateral relations and issues of intensifying cooperation in the military and security spheres, especially against the backdrop of the important role of Mauritania in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel region,” the message says.
Following the talks, the defense ministers of the two countries signed a memorandum on expanding military cooperation in the field of security.
Earlier, Special Representative of the President of Russia for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov discussed the situation in Libya and the Sahara-Sahel region with the Ambassador of Sudan, Mohammed Sirraj. The parties also exchanged views on African issues.
