“DOM.RF” will be engaged in climate projects in the field of housing and communal services on Sakhalin

The Government of the Sakhalin Region and DOM.RF will jointly implement climate projects in the housing sector. They will develop measures aimed at reducing the carbon footprint in the construction and operation of buildings and structures.

The corresponding agreement of intent was signed within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by the Governor of the Sakhalin Region Valery Limarenko and the General Director of DOM.RF Vitaly Mutko.

As Vitaly Mutko emphasized, the share of greenhouse gas emissions in construction and housing and communal services reaches 40 percent of the total volume of all greenhouse gas emissions in the Russian Federation. Therefore, the “greening” of this area is necessary.

– In 2022, it is planned to approve a “green” standard for apartment buildings, then we will focus on standards for individual housing construction and major repairs. The implementation of climate projects and the release of carbon units in housing and related infrastructure is the next logical step in the development of our green agenda, Mutko said.

According to Valery Limarenko, the inhabitants of the island region will feel the benefits from the implementation of these projects: the air in the settlements will become cleaner, and the loss of thermal energy and water will be reduced.

Recall that the Sakhalin Region has become a platform for an experiment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This experiment will last until 2028. In the future, the experience gained will be implemented in other subjects of the Federation.
