“We regret to inform you that today, August 1, 2022, after a long illness, our dear and beloved Mira Mikhailovna Koltsova passed away. The pain of loss cannot be expressed in words, ”the Beryozka website says.
It is noted that the farewell ceremony will take place on August 3.
“The farewell ceremony for Mira Mikhailovna will take place on Wednesday, August 3, at 11:00 in the Svetlanov Hall of the Moscow International House of Music, the funeral will take place at the Vagankovsky cemetery in Moscow,” the official statement says.
Artistic director, chief choreographer of “Birches”, People’s Artist of the USSR Mira Koltsova was born on December 21, 1938. She graduated from the choreographic school at the Bolshoi Theater of the USSR, as well as the theater department of the State Institute of Theater Arts named after A. V. Lunacharsky (GITIS).
In the ensemble “Birch” Koltsova began working in 1957. For the first twenty years she was the leading soloist of the ensemble, she got all the solo ballet parts. In 1978, she moved to the post of first assistant to the People’s Artist of the USSR Nadezhda Nadezhdina, the founder of Beryozka.
Since 1979, when Nadezhdina passed away, Koltsova headed the ensemble, becoming artistic director and chief choreographer.
In addition, in different periods, Koltsova was involved as the chief choreographer of decades of Russian art in Kyiv, Warsaw, Sofia, Belgrade, and Berlin. In 1996, she headed the festival “Slavianski Bazaar” in Vitebsk.
